On the afternoon of November 15, 2025, the National Intellectual Property Committee of Landing Law Offices, in collaboration with the Chongqing Bar Association and its Intellectual Property Committee, and jointly with Landing Law Offices (Chongqing), successfully hosted the Shanghai–Chongqing Seminar on Frontiers of Intellectual Property Theory and Practice in Chongqing.

The event brought together leading scholars and senior practitioners from both Shanghai and Chongqing, representing the forefront of intellectual property theory and practice. Through in-depth discussions on key and challenging issues in the IP field, the seminar explored emerging trends and mapped out a forward-looking blueprint for intellectual property protection and innovation.

The seminar was officially opened under the chairmanship of Mr. Junlin Xiang, Director of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Chongqing Bar Association and partner at Beijing Wanhuida (Chongqing) Law Firm. Following the opening, Mr. Zhi Yang, Vice President of the Chongqing Bar Association, delivered a welcome address.

In his speech, Vice President Yang highlighted that the event aims to bring together expertise from both regions to jointly address the urgent demand for high-level intellectual property protection and legal services in the era of the digital economy. He emphasized that through in-depth exchanges between theory and practice, the seminar seeks to break regional barriers, consolidate the collective strength of the rule of law, and jointly inject new momentum into regional collaborative innovation and high-quality development.

=The seminar’s first major segment featured a special lecture by Professor Hongguang Deng of Southwest University of Political Science and Law, titled “Achieving High Damages in Punitive Compensation for Intellectual Property.” Drawing on recent landmark cases from courts across China, Professor Deng provided an in-depth analysis of the key challenges in applying punitive damages, particularly regarding the determination of subjective malice and the calculation of the damage base. He also explained strategies and methods to overcome these obstacles, offering guidance for rights holders seeking high-value awards and practical insights for attending lawyers handling such cases.

The seminar’s subsequent session featured a specialist sharing segment, opened by Mr. Xiao Xing, Director of Landing Law Offices (Chongqing), and joined by five renowned intellectual property practitioners:

They shared their insights openly and generously, providing highly valuable experiences and reflections for all attendees.

The entire segment was professionally moderated by Ms. Liqin Huang, Executive Director of Landing Law Offices (Chongqing), ensuring a smooth and orderly flow. Each topic was delivered with depth and clarity, offering rich content that sparked thoughtful discussion and practical takeaways for the legal community.

It demonstrates in practice the tremendous potential and value of cross-regional cooperation within the legal profession, establishing a professional model of knowledge sharing and complementary strengths.
