Recently, Shanghai Observer (a news platform under Jiefang Daily) published an interview by journalist Hong Junjie with Lawyer Liu Zhaofu, Senior Partner and Chair of the Supervisory Board at Landing Law Offices. In the interview, Lawyer Liu shared insights into Landing’s journey toward internationalization and highlighted the crucial role of the APEC Business Travel Card in facilitating the firm’s global practice.

The APEC Business Travel Card is an initiative launched by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to promote regional economic and trade exchange.
Holders of the card can travel visa-free among 17 APEC economies — including China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and several Southeast Asian nations — without repeatedly applying for visas. Each entry allows a stay of up to 180 days, and major airports provide dedicated APEC fast-track lanes for expedited customs clearance.

As Lawyer Liu Zhaofu put it:

“Time and efficiency are the lifelines of cross-border legal services. The APEC card empowers our teams to travel at a moment’s notice, ensuring swift, on-site responses to client needs in the global marketplace.”

Landing’s Global Strategy Empowered by the APEC Card

As a comprehensive law firm committed to international development, Landing Law Offices has established 26 overseas offices across 21 countries, including multiple APEC economies such as Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, and Australia — and continues to expand its global footprint.

The APEC Business Travel Card has brought tangible benefits to the firm’s international operations:

  • Enhanced Client Confidence: In global business interactions, the APEC card symbolizes not only convenience but also governmental recognition of professional credibility and integrity.
  • Rapid On-Site Response: Lawyers can swiftly travel to project locations, ensuring real-time collaboration with clients on major cross-border matters.
  • Alignment with Market Trends: The APEC region, particularly Southeast Asia, remains a key destination for China’s “Going Global” enterprises — perfectly aligning with Landing’s strategic deployment across these markets.

At present, 18 lawyers at Landing hold valid APEC Business Travel Cards, with several others currently in the application process.

Looking ahead, Landing Law Offices will continue to uphold its philosophy of internationalization, specialization, and teamwork, leveraging the convenience of the APEC card and its extensive global network to deliver efficient, high-quality, and integrated cross-border legal services — empowering Chinese enterprises to venture abroad with greater confidence and success.
